More OpenTech Thoughts

It’s interesting how the same themes keep coming out of multiple sessions. If it was remotely true, I’d say we planned it that way, but we didn’t.

The first is the theme of data provenance – from LinkedGov to Amnesty via AMEE and others, many different approaches to that question.

The second is the external political context. How much is changing, and as Bill says, and I didn’t put anywhere near as eloquently in my first post, is that while, as Bill puts it, “the geeks have won”, it’s also important to note, that we are, in many ways, not playing the same game as those who used to have the input we now do.

Rufus, Lisa, Hadley, Julian, Glyn, Francis, Mike, Tom, Other Tom, et al aren’t interested in building an empire, or making money for themselves. Their interest, in different names at different times, comes in under the broad umbrella of “Social Justice”. And that means, when their ideas become as accepted as they are, not that others are excluded, but that everyone speaks and everyone is included.

And that’s really what Social Justice means in practice.
